Piano
I began to play piano at a young age (as most Asian children do) under the late Steva Goff using the Suzuki Method. Ms. Goff always encouraged me to perform to my best, and over the years I found a love for playing the instrument. I earned a Certificate of Merit in the Guild Auditions, and performed in recitals at elderly homes and in concert halls. The Piano remains one of my favorite instruments, and I continue to practice and play for friends and for my music. Enjoy the following recordings of my playing!
The Grand Finale
June 15, 2019 - Senior Piano Recital
Nocturne in C-sharp Minor - Frederic Chopin
The Island Spell - John Ireland
Wedding Day at Troldhaugen - Edvard Grieg
The Entertainer - Scott Joplin
I have played at this senior home quite often, but this would be the first time I had someone other than my parents record me. There was a man who went up to the front and began to record my playing; we found out afterwards that he thought I was a famous person (the highest compliment I got about my playing). Great recital, rushed a bit at the end, but ended strong with few mistakes.
It is OKAY to Make Mistakes
May 4, 2019 - Private Recital
Jazz Legato - Leroy Anderson
Tarantella - Albert Pieczonka
In this private recital, almost everyone except the younger students messed up their song badly, to the point that some songs were abandoned mid-song. I was no exception.
I forgot the ending to Jazz Legato, so I decided to end it on the right chord with a few random but okay sounding notes. Tarantella on the other hand was difficult to save, and thus I accepted my losses and simply did my best to reset at certain parts and finished as best as I could.
Heart of Gold - Live Piano
December 30, 2021 - Home Recording
Heart of Gold [Esther Chang's Piano Take] - Gerald Lee
Although not the recording of the published song, this is me playing the same song from memory. Hear more at Gerald Lee Music!
Electro Swing, but Piano
November 10, 2020 - Home Recording
I love to play ragtime or other jazzy songs, and this was a fun song to learn. This was a recording of my progress up to that point, which was not perfect (a few mistakes), and also not the full song (up to half). This was performed at a slower speed simply because of the difficulty of the song. Sheet music and credit linked above.
